CERITH WYN EVANS ...VISIBLEINVISIBLE

CERITH WYN EVANS (1958-)

Representative cross-section of the oeuvre of British artist Cerith Wyn Evans, whose work drew international attention at Documenta11.

Since presenting his work at Documenta11 in Kassel in 2002 and the 2003 Venice Biennale, Welsh artist Cerith Wyn Evans (*1958 in Llanelli ) has become known to a broader public outside of the United Kingdom. Early in his career, he worked mainly with the medium of film: he was assistant director to Derek Jarman and gained a reputation for his experimental short films. Since the nineties, the artist has been adding installations to his filmic works, thereby integrating elements such as philosophical texts, mirrors, neon lights, fireworks, and plants into his multilayered visual manifestations.
Containing instructive essays and an abundance of illustrations of his sculptural installations, film projections, neon and wall texts, and works incorporating Morse Code and sound, this volume offers a representative cross-section of Wyn Evans’s oeuvre, which can be read as a phenomenology of language, time, and perception.

Exhibition schedule: MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, León, January 26–May 4, 2008.

Edited by MUSAC, León, texts by Daniel Birnbaum, Octavio Zaya.
