A journey into Raphael's world, this lavish addition to Prestel's popular artist monographs series will furnish readers with a vivid picture of Raphael, the artist and the man. Alongside Michelangelo, Raphael Santi is considered one of the two great geniuses of Italian Renaissance art. Like his famous rival, Raphael left numerous statements about himself, which, together with other contemporary sources, provide us with a clear image of his personality and viewpoints. Not only does "I, Raphael" approach the painter through his work, it also offers a revealing view of the man behind the paintings. The book is structured like the first volume in the "I" series with the impressive introductory section featuring double-spread illustrations faced by artist's quotes. This is followed by an introductory text and an overview of the various media he used - panel painting, fresco, graphics, architecture.
