HERBERT BRANDL - Deichtorhallen

Oprindelig pris kr. 575,00

Vor pris kr. 250,00

HERBERT BRANDL (1959-)

Herbert Brandl is an outstanding painter. His oeuvre is also a clear statement about the present. There is no dearth of reasons to present a large solo exhibition of Herbert Brandl‘s paintig at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg and a modern book full of bright pictures two years after his international success in the Austrian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 2007. Herbert Brandl took an unusual approach to the challenge of presenting his paintings in a mise-en-scène that fills the space of the large Deichtorhalle. In the center of the exhibition stands the painting »Untitled«, 2007, which in Venice was hung outdoors in the courtyard of the Austrian Pavilion, with nothing to protect it against sun, rain, and changes in temperature.

The historical caesura of the international development of 2008 deeply touched Herbert Brandl. Much of this exhibition and the book is due to this initial spark. The exhibition of Herbert Brandl is part of an ongoing tradition at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg. »Der zerbrochene Spiegel«, the most recent comprehensive effort to pin down the situation of painting, came to the Deichtorhallen in 1993. Herbert Brandl was represented in that exhibition with paintings in the north hall.
