PETER RÖSEL. FATA MORGANA PAINTING PROJECT

PETER RÖSEL (1966-)

After Peter Rösel finished his studies at Städel School of Fine Art, he first came to public attention with his \"wales\" painted on aluminium cans. For several years, his work - lions sewn from New York firemen`s uniforms, potted plants sewn from German police uniforms - has covered a range of different media and dealt with the ralationship between culture and nature and the perception of the unknown, be it \"nature\" or the phenomena of an unknown civilisation or of one that has disappeared. This book shows his work in its entire variety, beginning with the \"whales\", going to the room-sized installations to his most recent paintings of fata morganas, created in Namibia.

1966 born in Rockenhausen, Germany. Grew up in Marocco, Iraq and Germany.

1987-92 Staedelschule Frankfurt am Main, classes of Prof. Thomas Bayrle and Prof. Raimer Jochims.
