GABRIEL OROZCO

GABRIEL OROZCO (1962-)

Gabriel Orozco defies categorization.

He twists our conventional notions of reality and art, and opens our eyes and minds to the beauty within the most common discarded objects, the most ordinary everyday encounters, the most transient moments.

Working in sculpture, drawing, photography, installation, collage, painting, and video, his works range from found and readymade objects, such as a deflated soccer ball or a city’s collected waste, to carefully constructed sculptures, large-scale installations, and finely crafted terracottas.

This book is the first substantial monograph on the artist. Spanning his entire career, it includes all of Orozco’s most significant works from the late 1980s to the present.
It includes a wide-ranging interview in which he discusses the impetus and philosophical ideas behind his art and texts by distinguished art historians.

Yve-Alain Bois is a professor in the School of Historical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. Benjamin H. D. Buchloh is Franklin D. and Florence Rosenblatt Professor of Modern Art at Harvard University. Briony Fer is Reader in the History of Art at University College London.
