INNEN STADT AUSSEN/ INNER CITY OUT

OLAFUR ELIASSON (1967-)

This book is a documentation of the exhibition within and beyond the walls of the Martin-Gropius-Bau, which became a sort of showcase of Eliasson s artistic practise. The development of site-specific works within the museal context, shown here in their entirety, is extended out into the public space with numerous installations, which were created exclusively for this exhibition, in various locations in Berlin. "Inner City Out" is also how Olafur Eliasson describes his close relationship to Berlin, where he has lived and worked for many years. This publication, designed by Eliasson himself, is a rigorous examination of his relationship to and the relationship between the city, architecture and landscape as well as space, body and time, and includes fascinating essays and discussions by Daniel Birnbaum, Lorraine Daston and Mark Wigley.
