The Snowball - A Collaborative Project by Peter Bonde & Jason Rhoades

The aim was already formulated at the last Venice Biennale: "to create a common place in a common time" - but the pavilions of the individual countries once again proved to be mutually isolated islands. This aim will now be realised at the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999 in the official contribution for the Danish pavilion by American Jason Rhoades and the Danish artist Peter Bonde. For the first time in the history of this art event, the representatives of two nations will create a common cultural and artistic space. The Snowball documents this joint project, in which the artists will transform the pavilion into a stock-car course with American stock cars, sound effects and film projections. Rhoades and Bonde see the multimedia installation as a work in progress that will already be created in the run-up to the Biennale in dialogue with artists, writers, academics and sponsors, and will be continued in creative cooperation beyond the art exhibition - in other places and with other people.
