NOBUYOSHI ARAKI - SKYSCAPES

NOBUYOSHI ARAKI (1940-)

Nobuyoshi Araki - fascinated by all things of his immediate surroundings - has been drawing attention with his photographs for the last three decades. He may well be one of the most important contemporary photographers.
Araki's sky pictures Skyscapes testify to his high mastery of subtle nuances of light and dark, presenting a yet virtually unknown painterly side of his. The cloud formations in the sky over Tokyo appear removed from time and a hymn to nature, but nevertheless refer to civilization: electricity poles and wires are present in every picture.
