INVESTIGATE, ask, tell, draw, build

3 x NIELSEN

Investigate, Ask, Tell, Draw, Build profiles one of Europe’s most exciting and innovative architecture practices, Denmark’s 3XN. Key to their success has been the immense importance they place on investigating and interpreting the historical and cultural context of the site of each new project.

Known for the ambitious aim to make their playful and poetic architecture the heritage of tomorrow, 3XN were recently chosen to design the upcoming Museum of Liverpool, which will be completed at the city’s World Heritage Site waterfront by 2008, when Liverpool will be European Cultural Capital.

Established by Kim Herforth Nielsen in 1986, the now 100 strong practice has previously made its mark around Europe with such prominent projects as the Royal Danish Embassy in Berlin, the Architects' Building in Copenhagen, and the Music Building in Amsterdam. More recently, 3XN won the competition to build Salford Arts and Media Centre in Manchester and Stadhuis Nieuwegein
in The Netherlands.

Investigate, Ask, Tell, Draw, Build: 3XN Architects explores how a practice working within the Scandinavian tradition of functionality is now one of the leading imaginative forces in European architecture.
