EGON SCHIELE - (Albertina)

EGON SCHIELE (1890-1918)

Providing a comprehensive overview of Egon Schiele's development from his earliest days at the Vienna Academy to his untimely death in 1918, this exhibition catalogue from the Albertina Museum in Vienna shows the extraordinary multi-faceted oeuvre of the Austrian Expressionist. In this exhibition of his paintings, drawings and sketches, Egon Schiele's new view of the human being comes across no less clearly than his sensitive treatment of landscape and nature. The extraordinary quality of the selected works show Schiele as an artist who understood brilliantly how to employ painterly techniques in drawing as well as his more famous watercolours.

Schiele's work seems to be driven by some uninhibited, wild, creative force, expressed in his twisted, erotic nudes and portraits. However, there are many new themes that can be found in the artist's oeuvre which portray a completely different Egon Schiele. This side is one that focuses on the quieter tones in his art and how these subtle sides can be teased out of his paintings.
